A Day Afloat

ALL IN A DAY’S CRUISE ON OUR UK HOTELBOATS

tea table

Your perfect day afloat begins with tea or coffee, served to you in your cabin at around 8am. A cooked breakfast, toast, cereal, fruits and fruit juice follows at 8.30am in the dining room. Next comes a short chat with the skipper about the day’s itinerary and highlights.

We generally set off from our mooring by 9.30am to ensure a full day’s cruising. Morning coffee or tea, and biscuits are served at around 11am. Although usually taken on the move, sometimes we stop for cuppa at a lock gate or a canal side bench. The skipper usually look for a pleasant mooring for our light lunch of two courses at around 1pm. He will look for a place of interest, or on occasion, may choose to continue cruising, whilst you enjoy your meal.

Cruising The South Oxford Canal

Afternoon tea or coffee comes between 4 and 4.30pm. Freshly baked treats, such as scones with clotted cream or a lemon drizzle cake, can be enjoyed just before we moor up for the evening. We may be in the middle of remote countryside, in the thick of a busy town, or just up from a canal-side pub.

Dinner is served between 7 and 7.30pm. It will consist of three courses of carefully prepared, home-cooked food with a glass of wine. The meal is completed by a choice of English regional cheeses and tea or coffee.

SO MUCH TO DO

bridge and river

Each day afloat brings new things to see and do. Flexibility is what makes this holiday so special; you can walk the towpath, explore a local village, sample the ale of a country inn, or simply watch as the world floats by. Some guests read a book, sketch the local flora and fauna or take photographs. Some do puzzles, play cards, board games or just have a chat.

Many people like to help us move the boats along the canal, working with our crew, setting locks or handling the ropes. This help is always gratefully received. You can be sure that, as the boats travel the canals, there is never a shortage of things to keep you occupied.

HOTELBOAT GALLEY CUISINE

Maesbury Marsh

All food is carefully and freshly prepared in the small and neatly arranged galley by our Chef assisted by the crew. We pride ourselves on offering a varied menu of delicious food, prepared on board using fresh and quality ingredients. We source the week’s meat from local butchers where possible, grow our own herbs and try to always use the freshest produce.

Every endeavour is taken to ensure the high standard of our food. It might include a simple starter, a full roast dinner or freshly baked bread. You can be sure of a fully satisfied appetite, no matter how active you may be during you cruise.

We can cater for various special diets, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten or dairy free. Please discuss your requirements with Rosie when you book, to make sure we know what it is you require.
