 ABOUT
SIĀN
SIĀN
our purpose built narrow boat has been specially designed to provide
comfortable cruising. She has no overnight passenger cabins so we have
been able to make the best use of all available space. To fit into the
locks she is 70 feet long and 7 feet wide. At the front there is a large
open observation deck where you can sit on fine days. The long lounge is
entered through double doors and has large windows and comfortable
seating from which you can look out at the passing scenery on those
cooler days. Your refreshments are prepared by the crew in a small, well
equipped kitchen and toward the stern is a small toilet and shower for
your convenience throughout the day. Siān has full central heating
should it be needed.The crew
cabin at the stern is in keeping with Siān's traditional origins. Built
by craftsmen in the traditional style it is decorated with brightly
coloured roses and castles both inside and out. Delicate ribbon plates,
lace curtains and polished brasses replicate the accommodation where
families once lived when boats carried cargo.
YOUR
CREW
Siān
carries a crew of three. One crew member is responsible for the
catering, comfort and welfare of passengers whilst another is required
to steer Siān by a large rudder. The final crew member is responsible
for looking after our horse Buddy.
It goes without saying that Buddy is an
important member of the crew. Born in 1998 hes a very placid Clydesdale
cross cob gelding.
Standing at 15 hands (5 feet) he is
strong enough to pull Siān with ease, yet is small enough to pass under
the many bridges. Resplendent in his painted harness he pulls Siān on a
90 feet cotton line. |

STAY
FOR LONGER
We would like to suggest that if you can you extend your Bywater Break
and stay a little longer in this lovely part of the world. Beside the
variety of scenery and wildlife of the Welsh Marches there is much to
interest the discerning visitor. |

The historic town of Oswestry with its iron age hill fort, colourful
street market and old school (founded in 1407) is not far away. With
many Georgian buildings, a Norman castle and an old fashioned
ironmongers. Montgomery is well worth a visit. Shrewsbury, Llangollen,
Newtown and Bishops Castle are all within easy driving distance.
Nearby National Trust properties
include Powys Castle and Gardens, Chirk Castle and Erddig House.
Other places of interest include
Glensevern Gardens, Melverley Church, The Stiperstones, Lake Vyrnwy,
Llyn Clywedog and the Centre For Alternative Technology near Machynlleth.
Railway enthusiasts can enjoy a whiff of nostalgia on the Welshpool and
Llanfair narrow gauge line or the standard gauge Vale of Llangollen line
not to mention the Cambrian Coast line to Aberwystwyth or Porthmadog. |
